William the Conqueror Bayeux Tapestry
The Last Invasion Tapestry which is 100-foot long and on display in the Town Hall in Fishguard, is modeled on the famous Bayeux Tapestry that depicts the Norman invasion of 1066. The modern version depicts a lesser known and less successful attack on England. A unit of French soldiers landed in Fishguard Harbour in 1797, and was defeated by a fast assembled local militia that included several women. This tapestry which took 70 local women over 40,000 hours to finish, was commissoned to mark the event's 200th anniversary. Fishguard lies 16 miles northwest of St. David. Open 9:30 to 5; free.
