Powis Castle and Garden

Located farther north and one mile south of Welshpool, Powis Castle is one of England's most beautiful mansions, constructed around a 13th-century fortress in Tudor and Stuart times. Both the Long Gallery and State Bedrooms are incredibly ornate, and the castle's gardens, landscaped within 30 years, are the country's only remaining design of this kind. The mansion has an excellent art collection such as Greek vases and paintings by Thomas Gainsborough. The Clive of India Museum displays a very extensive private collection of ancient Indian art in UK. The south side shows charming, terraced late-renaissance gardens. Open noon to 4 daily. Ticket price: $12.
