Roman Conquest of Anglesey
The Roman invasion was seriously brutal on the British isles. Most of southern England had fallen to the Roman soldiers by 50 AD. But the legions had not progressed much in the wild parts of the west.
The Welsh tribes kept nearly constant guerilla attacks against invaders. Despite the dense crowd of men with mixed arms and women darting through the ranks, and even striking terror into the Roman soldiers, urged on by their officers, Roman cavalrymen crossed the straits as the infantry advanced in flat-bottomed boats. Reaching the Anglesey side, the Romans slaughtered the enemy.
